The next game from Limbo developer is 'at least two years away'

Playdead's next project, code-named "Project 2" (which we first heard word of back in mid-June), is a puzzle-platformer/adventure title slated for release in 2014, at the earliest.

“We took a lot of financial risk to release Limbo only when we felt it was ready and we are prepared to do so again,” game director Arnt Jensen told IGN.

The developers are creating the game using the Unity engine, which makes porting easier and allows the devs to release on multiple platforms — PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac have already been confirmed.

"We always want as many people as possible to play and Unity makes it easy to come out on different platforms,” said Jensen. “With our own technology, we spent a lot of time and money porting Limbo. With Unity this will be easier.”

Limbo sold more than one million copies worldwide, and its success and influence is far from over.

"We always experiment with ideas," said Jensen. "Many ideas were cut [from Limbo], right up until the very end. We're still working with some of the ideas that didn't make it into Limbo."

Retailer posts two more images of Halo 4 Limited Edition

New Zealand online retailer, Mighty Ape, has posted two new images of the Halo 4 Limited Edition.

The $99 Halo 4 Limited Edition, not to be confused with the recently announced Halo 4 Limited Edition Xbox 360 bundle, contains a ton of extra features to maximize your multiplayer experience through access to additional multiplayer maps, early Specializations unlocks, and a UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet.

The two new images gives us a closer look at the contents of this Limited Edition, specifically the intriguing Briefing Packet which includes a Spartan armor customization schematic, information about UNSC weapons, and an introduction to the massive ship UNSC Infinity among other things.

You can find additional pre-order information here. If you intend on purchasing the Limited Edition, you may want to do so soon as 343 Industries has warned there will be a "significantly less" amount of Halo 4 Limited Edition copies at launch than previous Halo releases.

Here's what's included in the Halo 4 Limited Edition:

War Games Map Pack Access

The competitive multiplayer modes of Halo 4 are known as War Games. The Limited Edition includes access to nine maps - three future competitive multiplayer map packs, each including three locations, available for download post-launch on Xbox LIVE. Yes, you read that correctly; you get nine maps in the form of future DLC with the purchase of the Halo 4 Limited Edition. Score!

Specializations

Everyone will have access to select Specializations, but those that purchase the Halo 4 Limited Edition will receive the ability to unlock six Specializations early, available at launch on Xbox LIVE. You can use them, one at a time, to achieve higher ranks in your Spartan career. In addition to gaining access to new ranks, Specializations unlock new customization options. We’ll be releasing more information about Specializations at E3, so expect additional details about this particular feature then.

UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet

The UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet includes a Spartan armor customization schematic, information about UNSC weapons, an introduction to the massive ship UNSC Infinity, and insight into what it means to be one of humanity’s finest warriors: The Spartan-IVs. Story lovers will especially enjoy this in-fiction offering that provides a glimpse into the indoctrination of Spartans aboard the Infinity.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Special Edition

The Special Edition of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is a 90-minute extended version of the live-action digital series which will take fans back to the terrifying beginning of the Human/Covenant war, when the Master Chief inspired a young cadet who would eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC’s greatest vessel ever: the UNSC Infinity.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD pushes 120K in first week on XBLA

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, which arrived on XBLA last week and is coming to PC and PS3 later this year, has already sold 120,000 copies.

With Pro Skater HD, developer Robomodo relaunched the arcade skateboarding franchise with its first downloadable title.

Josh Tsui of the studio told Gamasutra that day-over-day sales are "staying very consistent" because of word of mouth.

"People are more apt to try games that are smaller and downloadable," he said.

The game landed on Xbox 360 as part of the XBLA Summer of Arcade. It will arrive for PSN in August and PC later this year.

"It should be interesting to see the sales on PC — we've been surprised how many people are asking for that," said Tsui.

Relax Battlefield 3 players, EA said they'll keep supporting the game even after Battlefield 4 launches

Battlefield 4 is definitely a thing. Fans of EA's flagship shooter can definitely get excited for a sequel, which won't take seven years to make. However, it does seem that there are some who are worried about the release of a sequel, fearing EA will completely stop supporting Battlefield 3.

In a recent post on the Battlefield Blog however, community manager Ian Tornay detailed aspects of the Battlefield 4 beta, as well as letting fans know that there will still be heavy support for Battlefield 3 even after BF4's launch.

We’ve announced that players will be able to guarantee their access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 beta by pre-ordering the Limited Edition of Medal of Honor Warfighter. Here’s the other important information that we can provide at this time.

In addition to detailing the plans for the BF4 beta, he also detailed Armored Kill, which will be out in September, and you can watch the trailer for it here.

So there you have it, believe it or not, but Battlefield 3 will still continue to thrive, even after Battlefield 4 is on the market. Though my biggest question here is, wouldn't most of the hardcore fans that loved and played Battlefield 3 up to that point just buy the sequel? I realize there are monetary hardships to some people, but if so many gamers are willing to spend $60 on a Madden game each year, which in my opinion is crazy, then I can't see why gamers wouldn't just migrate to the next, probably better iteration.

Rumor: Madden NFL 13 achievements, trophies leaked

The fall sports season is inching its way over the horizon and into our living rooms, and though that brings the Fall Classic and college Saturdays, it means hard-hitting Sundays with your favorite NFL teams, along with Madden NFL 13.

Today, a leaked document hit the Internet revealing the entire list of achievements and trophies for Madden NFL 13. Though EA has yet to confirm the listing, the 42 items stick true to EA's formula from past titles. The entire list, which can be seen here, includes a nice mix of player-focuses achievements and online time investments that'll be earned through scoring.

It should be noted that at least one achievement must be completed using Kinect. There is no word, however, if that trophy will be available on the PS3 version, though we expect EA to clarify soon. We'll be sure to keep you up to date on any news pertaining to this link. Until then, keep polishing your cleats until Madden NFL 13 airs it out on August 28, 2012.

Randy Pitchford 'astonished' at lack of Borderlands clones

Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford is "astonished" that no developer has ripped off Borderlands.

Borderlands is designed to be different than mainstream shooters like Call of Duty, making it a fresh concept.

"I'm actually astonished that we're about to launch a sequel and no one's stole it from us," he told Gamasutra. "The formula's right there. No one's stolen it yet.

"We're in an industry where people do nothing but steal from each other," he said. "That's kind of interesting, isn't it? Not that I want anyone to steal it, or I'm challenging people to steal it."

Pitchford said that to create a game like Call of Duty but outsell it, "you really have to put in a lot. You have to really go for it and spend a lot. You have to basically not only out-brute force the market leader, but you have to out-clever them."

Borderlands, on the other hand, "has zero competition. It doesn't have to worry about that at all."

Nielsen: Halo 4, Black Ops 2 most anticipated titles

According to a survey conducted by consumer report site Nielsen, Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 are gamers' most anticipated titles for 2012. Throughout the month of June, Nielsen contacted over 4,800 gamers, both male and female, asking them to list their most anticipated titles. The data was then compiled into a list of fifteen and has now been published for all eyes to see.

Nielsen began their data around this year's E3 in Los Angeles so that the company could incorporate every title announced at the expo, along with any titles release shortly thereafter. Consumers who participated in the survey owned at least one console from this generation, and was between the ages of 7 and 54.

As we alluded to, Halo 4 took home the top spot with 99% of gamers most anticipating 343's upcoming shooter. Not far behind stood Black Ops 2 with 97% of folks' most anticipated title. Rounding out the top five was none other than Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 3, EA's Madden NFL 13, and Capcom's Resident Evil 6.

Others notables who made the top fifteen were: Borderlands 2 (88%), Darksiders 2 (76%), and Microsoft's upcoming exclusive, Fable: The Journey (77%). Several sports, other than Madden, graced the survey, which can be see in full by clicking here.

Wheatley enters space, courtesy of NASA

An anonymous tech at NASA snuck a laser-engraving of Portal 2's Wheatley and the quote "In spaaaaaaace!" onto the Japanese HTV-3 resupply craft to the ISS.

"NASA in no way officially endorses secretly laser-engraving characters from Portal onto their spacecraft," the Portal 2 team wrote on their blog. "Believe it or not, they don't even officially endorse Portal 2, despite the fact that it's a really excellent game."

The craft launches on Friday, July 27. You can watch the event starting at 9:15 EST on the NASA TV website.

Capcom claims E.X. Troopers isn't part of the Lost Planet franchise

I recently swung by Capcom's hotel suite at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 to get an exclusive interview regarding the upcoming Lost Planet prequel, Lost Planet 3. That however didn't stop me from sneaking in a question regarding E.X. Troopers, the cel-shaded spinoff of the Lost Planet franchise which has had fans of Capcom's colorful 80s/90s ascetic abuzz. Unfortunately, Lost Planet 3 producer Andrew Szymanski had no promises to make about a North American release.

"E.X. Troopers has not officially been announced for any territory but Japan" Szymanski emphasized. "It technically isn't considered part of the Lost Planet franchise. It's kind of a spin-off."

"It's not canon?" I prompted, to which Szymanski backpeddled a bit.

a

"Well, it's a sides tory, spin-off slash influenced by, not directly a part of, sort of deal. Really, the impetus for that was the multiplayer in Lost Planet 2 was very much almost like this party game, like a party game shooter. Capcom felt very strongly after Lost Planet 2 that we needed to avoid the confusion caused by mixing this party game style fast, frenetic, wild, funky gameplay, with this really serious realistic art style. So we've more or less split those off."

In short, E.X. Troopers isn't something Capcom USA seems too interested in talking about, as the focus of the conversation was definitely steered back to Lost Planet 3 as quickly as possible. Still, we'll be crossing our fingers in the hopes that this unique anime-style adventure makes its way stateside!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD now available on Xbox 360, new DLC revealed

The much anticipated HD remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has finally arrived. Dubbed "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD", the new game takes the best elements of the classic THPS games and gives them a "fresh update".

Featuring the same iconic levels like "Warehouse" and "Hangar" along with a soundtrack comprised of classic THPS tracks, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will bring back that nostalgic feel of grinding of pipes and skating through half pipes - except with better graphics and motion gameplay. Tony Hawk may be a little older, but the fun is still there.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD includes seven levels, eight pros, four online multiplayer modes, and the ability to share scores of Facebook. It also contains the same global and level-specific goals, including S-K-A-T-E.

In a video released today, Tony Hawk confirmed that new DLC will be arriving in the next few weeks. This will include levels from THPS3 like "Terminal" and the just announced "Los Angeles" and "Canada". The DLC will be available for 400 MS Points, or $5.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD is currently available on Xbox 360 via XBLA for 1200 MS Points. It is scheduled to release on PSN (PS3) and PC via Steam later this summer for $15. Exact release dates will be "announced soon".

'My Xbox Live' companion feature now available for iPad users

In an inevitable move, Microsoft has officially updated its free “My Xbox Live” app for iOS devices with iPad support for the Companion feature, which transforms an iOS device into a remote control for a number of Xbox 360 actions.

The free update spans across all three generations of iPads and gives gamers the ability to navigate their consoles, launch games, control DVD actions, and view dashboard videos. Players can also access and browse their Xbox LIVE account, including: friends, messages, achievements, storage, and much more. These features are now in line with what iPhone owners were getting; Microsoft aims to continue support for both devices, though no further details were mentioned.

Not much to say about this one. We’re curious, though – is anyone actually utilizing the free “My Xbox Live” app on either your iPhone or iPad? If so, let us know what you think and give us your thoughts on how Microsoft can be tter this technology until SmartGlass hits this fall.

Here's the Resident Evil 6 trailer you missed at Comic-Con 2012

A new trailer for Resident Evil 6 has provided us with a fresh look at Capcom's highly anticipated shooter.

The trailer shows off some of that intense, gory gameplay that the ESRB mentioned in its rating summary and focuses primarily on Leon S. Kennedy's story, just one of three unique campaigns in Resident Evil 6 - although a fourth campaign centered around Ada Wong has been uncovered.

While this one minute trailer gives you a cinematic feel for the game, we recently had some hands-on time with Resident Evil 6 at Comic-Con last weekend. You can check out some Leon gameplay footage as we roamed the halls of the zombified Ivy League University.

Resident Evil 6 is set to release on October 2, 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360. A PC version will be released later on.

In addition, players who pre-order the title from select retailers will receive a distinct, in-game incentive that’ll surely rev up your excitement for the upcoming racer even more.

The pre-order goodies don’t stop there, though. EA also detailed the entire outline for re tailer-specific incentives, though these stores were not specifically named (we can already assume Best Buy and GameStop will be included). Below you can view the in-game “DLC” that EA describes as “unique modifications that fit different play styles,” and decide which pack best suits you:

EA passed on a Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning sequel

A source from the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning development team claims that Electronic Arts declined publishing a sequel back in March.

This tip is at odds with a statement EA made to Game Informer recently. The company said they "would love" to publish a second game.

"At the end of the day we saw a lot of creativity and vision in the team that Curt [Schilling] put together," EA Labels president Frank Gibeau said. "We thought the game was terrific. It reviewed well."

The voice of Duke Nukem somehow makes '50 Shades of Grey' better

What do you get when you combine the sh*ttiness of Duke Nukem Forever with the literary crapsterpiece 50 Shades of Grey? Actually, something quite funny. At ConnectiCon, Team Four Star was joined by the Duke Nukem voice actor John St. John. During the panel, John got a copy of 50 Shades of Grey and proceeded to read an excerpt from it in the voice of Duke Nukem. Now, I haven't heard the audio book of 50 Shades of Grey, but I totally would buy it if it was read in the voice of Duke Nukem.

There's something about hearing Duke tell a girl he's going to put two shiny silver balls linked by a thick black thread inside her, then tell her he's going to spank her for pleasure... only to tell her, "Then we'll f*ck."

EA 'would love' to publish next Kingdoms of Amalur game

Speaking to Game Informer, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau said he "would love" to publish a sequel to Kingdoms of Amalur.

"I think it's unfortunate how everything worked out," said Gibeau. "At the end of the day we saw a lot of creativity and vision in the team that Curt [Schilling] put together. We thought the game was terrific. It reviewed well."

Pre-production was allegedly underway before 38 Studios' and Big Huge Games' collapse.

Assassin's Creed 3 visits Boston in this new gameplay demo

Ubisoft has released a new demo walkthrough for Assassin's Creed 3 showing off the game's city gameplay.

In the video, creative director Alex Hutchinson provides narration as he details the city landscape and gameplay features new to Assassin's Creed 3. As he explains, there are two huge new city locations in Assassin's Cree 3, one being New York and this particular city being Boston. Each have been recreated at a 1 to 3 scaled based on historic maps from the 18th century.

While watching you'll see different assassin's moves, side-mission integration, and stealth positioning which allows you to take cover behind walls and trees creating a sense of integration in the world. Hutchinson also details the changes made to the combat system and city navigation.

In short, Ubisoft has made a ton of changes in Assassin's Creed 3, but you don't need me to tell you that. Sit back and enjo y the new gameplay demo in the city of Boston.

Earlier today we caught wind of the new Wolf Pack co-op multiplayer mode being introduced in Assassin's Creed 3. This new online multiplayer mode will have you work together to assassinate NPC targets over 25 wave-based missions.

Halo 4 Xbox 360 bundle details leaked

With next generation rumors popping up everyday, and an inevitable reveal on the horizon, Microsoft and 343 Industries look to be offering one last “hooh-rah” with a Halo 4 Xbox 360 bundle, details of which have been leaked online today.

IGN first spotted the since-pulled retail listing for the, seemingly, limited edition Halo 4-themed Xbox 360. The image below showcases the $400-listed system, including a custom-designed console that’s rumored to play Halo noises when ejecting/loading a disc and when turning your console on/off. The bundle also includes a pair of controllers, as well as Halo 4, and finally a generic headset for online play.

Halo 4 Xbox 360 bundle

Since its leak, several sources are reporting that the bundle will also include in-game DLC in the form of weapon ski ns, character outfits, avatar items, and much more, though this is still entirely unknown.

Though Microsoft has yet to announce the console, all signs point to this being real. When you consider Microsoft’s (and all first-party console makers at that) lackluster year thus far in console sales, this would definitely boost some sales and make for a great Holiday item. Keep your eyes peeled the next few days for an official announcement at San Diego Comic Con where the game is being showcased heavily.

Punisher star creates Kickstarter for new sci-fi game Bad Planet

Thomas Jane, known for his role as Marvel's the Punisher, began his own Kickstarter today for a "hyper-violent" sci-fi game called Bad Planet.

A project of the Austin-based Red Fly Studio (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II for Wii, Ghostbusters: The Video Game), Bad Planet is a the third-person, episodic game that will be available for XBLA, PSN, and PC. It uses Unreal Engine 3, and by incorporating "a fast, gory, combo-based combat system, the studio will create a bold and gritty action game that will be sure to please hardcore gamers and science fiction fans alike!"

The game stars an alien warrior named the Convict who must save the planet from an invasion of intergalactic Death Spiders. It's based on Jane's and Steve Niles' (Criminal Macabre) comic book mini-series from 2005.

"Essentially, the artists/creators are in control, not some suit who's job is to appeal to the lowest common denominator," Jane told Polygon. "Think about it, what if Ridley Scott couldn't raise the money to make a sequel to Bladerunner ... I think he could raise that money in a week with the fans backing it. That may be a crazy example but the point is, if fans want to see it, they'll pay in advance. I think crowd-funding low-budget film production could be very close to reality."

The Kickstarter's rewards include copies of the old comic series.

Konami finally patches Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3

Nearly four months passed since Konami released the Silent Hill HD Collection for PS3 and Xbox 360 and frustrated gamers with dozens of glitches and gameplay problems.

Now Konami has finally introduced a complete patch for the PS3 version, the worse of the two.

Producer Tomm Hulett wrote on the Silent Hill Community forums, saying that a new patch was available on PSN.

The new patch improves the framerate and voice synch, fixes missing sound and music, resolves the fog density issues, and attends other visual/audio problems.

Konami previously admitted that the Collection was ported from an unfinished code.

"We got all the source code that Konami had on file — which it turns out wasn't the final release version of the games!" he told 1UP.

"During debug we didn't just have to deal with the expected 'porting' bugs, but also had to squash some bugs that the original team obviously removed prior to release, but we'd never seen before.

"I think at one point Heather was blue," he said.

Hulett did not announce a patch for the Xbox 360 version.

'Cordis Die' YouTube channel pops up following release of new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 trailer

Remember, when I blamed YouTube for the uprising of Raul Menendez, the new villain in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? Well, it seems that Activision has set up a new viral page marketing that same YouTube channel seen in the new trailer. No joke, this is really happening.

Cordis Die, as seen in the trailer, is now an official YouTube channel. It currently only has one video titled "New World" and looks to spread the message of Raul Menendez. It's not quite up to the 55 million followers as seen in the trailer, but it's a start.

"Come my friends. It's not too late to seek a newer world," is all the video says over a black screen. I'm beginning to see how it could attract the 99%.

While that's all that is on the channel as of now, I expect more videos to be uploaded as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 gets nearer to launch and the viral marketing really picks up.

The new Call of Duty: Bl ack Ops 2 trailer, released today, introduces us to Raul Menendez and helps show how he appealed to the masses to help get in power - and eventually cause an uprising in America. The future looks grim...

Activision better be careful, I could see this really causing an uprising. Especially with all of the crazy sh*t going on here in America lately.

Tekken x Street Fighter still coming for current-gen systems

Namco Bandai's upcoming Tekken x Street Fighter is still scheduled for release on current systems despite the two-year wait.

"There's still a large number of players out there with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 who are looking forward to the game," Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada said. "So we feel it's probably more relevant to get the title out to them on the current hardware."

Harada added that they're "not completely sure, but that's the direction at this moment."

Tekken x Street Fighter was announced back in 2010 alongside the Capcom-developed Street Fighter x Tekken, which released earlier this year. The upcoming game will place Street Fighter's roster in a 3D area, rather than the opposite.

Ubisoft to offer 'diverse sampling' of upcoming titles at Comic-Con

Today, Ubisoft announced an impressive Comic-Con lineup, which includes a "diverse sampling of titles", like Assassin’s Creed 3, The Expendables 2 Videogame, Just Dance 4 and Marvel Avengers Battle For Earth.

On display at Comic-Con and playable on the show floor will be Assassin's Creed 3, which will also have an exclusive T-shirt available to fans who pre-order. There will also be a live stage demo being held on Thursday that will feature new gameplay and details about the Assassin's Creed 3 Steelbook.

Ubisoft's recently announced The Expendables 2 Videogame, which expands upon the universe in the upcoming action movie, will also be playable. Fans who check out the Lions Gate and PlayStation booths will have the opportunity to play as mercenaries Barney Ross, Gunner Jensen, Hale Casear, and Yin Yang squad-based action game.

Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth will also be showcased at the Marvel booth where you can unleash your inner superhero and play as one of the 20 iconic Marvel superheroes and villains including The Hulk, Thor, Venom, and Magneto. At the "Marvel Video Games" panel on Saturday, July 14, producer Pierre Leroux and director Dan Vargas will unveil a brand new Comic-Con trailer and present gameplay.

Lastly, popular dancing game Just Dance 4, which was unveiled at E3, will be at the Nintendo Gaming Lounge in the Marriott Hotel, located across from the Convention Center.

Overall, it looks like a solid lineup for Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed 3 and Just Dance 4 are two highly anticipated titles and while I'm hesitant about Marvel Avengers due to its Kinect and Wii U exclusivity, it still has potential to sell well because of the hype surrounding the film.

Activision reveals The Walking Dead FPS for Xbox 360 and PS3, coming in 2013

Activision has made a surprise announcement that it plans to turn AMC's hit TV show The Walking Dead into a first-person shooter.

Unlike Telltale Games' episodic adventure game, which follows a character and story of its own simply set in the world of The Walking Dead, Activision's new game will actually features series regular, and my personal favorite, Daryl Dixon.

Developed by Terminal Reality, the story of this The Walking Dead game will revolve around Daryl Dixon and his brother Merle Dixon on what the developer describes as a "haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta."

Players can choose to fight or use stealth to avoid detection from the hordes of zombies that use sight, sound, and smell to hunt them.

“No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world," Activis ion said of The Walking Dead video game.

Supplies and resources will be scarce and players will have to manage food, ammunition, and supplies as they journey to Atlanta.  Along the way, players will reportedly encounter other survivors who can either help or hinder their progress and will be forced to make decisions whether or not these characters can accompany Daryl. This "represents just some of the major decisions that will constantly be made while fighting to survive."

Details remain limited, but judging from the trailer, it looks like The Walking Dead video game from Activision will more closely resemble what we've watched on AMC as far as what characters we'll see and what they'll look like. The trailer gives us a nice look at what to expect in terms of gruesomeness and look and feel.

The Walking Dead video game will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC sometime in 2013.

While Telltale Games' version is good, it was only a matter of time before we got a game more closely related to the show. It's far too popular to not have a game based on the characters we see every week on television. I can't wait to hear more details about it, but until then check the game's official site for more details.

We want female characters in Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer!

Aliens: Colonial Marines, a game based on a franchise featuring strong female characters, will not allow players to create female characters in its multiplayer mode.

Gearbox has promised an "extensive upgrade system that allows players to customize their characters to play the way they want," unless, of course, you want to play as a girl. That's according to Gearbox Producer Brian Burleson who confirmed the inability to create a female character and relive the Alien experience Ripley style.

Honestly, I have to say I'm a little shocked. I mean, we're talking about a franchise that had characters like Ripley, Vasquez, and even Elizabeth Shaw in the recent Prometheus sequel. It's a franchise that has embraced strong female characters. Aside from the lack of creative freedom for players, it's kind of a slap in the face to the franchise and female gamers who prefer to create girl characters.

After all, as Melissa K. points out in an online petition to make Gearbox reconsider its position, "There are many females that enjoy playing video games and are fans of the films who are tired of playing as a male all the time."

"While we fully support Gearbox, We would like to request the inclusion of playable females. The ALIENS franchise is dominated by strong females such as Ripley, Vasquez, Ferro, Dietrich and most importantly, The Queen," Melissa wrote in an online petition.

"There is roughly 5-6 months before the game goes Gold and releases February 12th, 2013. We believe ALIENS is the perfect starting point for developers to start including playable females in more multiplayer shooters," she added. "And what better company to start this than Gearbox with the success of Borderlands and the benchmark shooter Brothers in Arms? There are many females that enjoy playing video games and are fans of the films wh o are tired of playing as a male all the time. Lets let Gearbox Software see how important this is to the ALIENS franchise!"

So what is it that Melissa is seeking? "

"What we want is the ability to create a CUSTOM female to represent ourselves just like the men can, in Multiplayer/Co-op in order for us to "Become a Colonial Marine" as well as accurately represent the other half of the United States Colonial Marine Corps!"

Is it too much to ask for Gearbox to create a female character model for people to play as in multiplayer? I mean, EA and BioWare created an entirely new ending for Mass Effect 3 when fans requested it. Who knows, if Gearbox can't do it by launch, maybe we'll get some sort of free DLC that adds the ability to create a female soldier.

While the goal of the petition was only to get 1,000 signatures, it currently sits at 1,184. You can sign it here. GameZone fully suppo rts Melissa and appreciate her effort in attempt to bring female characters into Aliens: Colonial Marines' multiplayer.

A whole hour's worth of Star Wars Battlefront 3 footage is like a slap in the face

Star Wars Battlefront III is a sore spot for some, since the game was indeed being worked on at some point, with concept art released and even gameplay videos to boot.

Now which seems like even more salt on the wound, or perhaps a sweet reminder of what could have been, user Borman18 of PTOPOnline has uploaded close to an hours worth of footage of an obviously very early build of Star Wars Battlefront III.

According to his description, this is the stuff you'll be seeing in the video:

In any case, enjoy the gameplay from a Star Wars game that could have been truly great.
